Central Warehouse for Geological Samples to be built in Leszcze near Kłodawa

A modern warehouse of geological samples for the whole of Poland will soon be built in the village of Leszcze in the Kłodawa commune (Wielkopolskie Province). The investment of the State Geological Institute - PIG will be carried out by ANNA-BUD for nearly PLN 28 million and will be financed by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

On 18th October 2018, a press conference was held in Leszczyny, during which PIG-PIB director Dr Tomasz Nowacki informed about the details and timing of the planned investment.

During the conference, Dr Tomasz Nowacki presented the concept for the construction and operation of the central geological sample storage facility. A high storage hall with an area of about 7,500 m2, accommodating 1 million sample boxes, will be built. A modern profiling room and laboratory and technical facilities will make it possible to carry out specialised research. The facility will also serve an educational and conference function, serving geologists and the local community.

The storage facility will be equipped with an innovative, ecological and ‘pro-geological’ heating system using low-temperature geothermal. Geological samples from other PIG-PIB warehouses and collections of Treasury samples from PGNiG and LOTOS warehouses will be transferred to the central warehouse.
