The new seat of the ‘Kubuś’ theatre is ready!
The new seat of the Stefan Karski Puppet and Actor Theatre ‘Kubuś’ in Kielce at 1 Zamkowa Street has been put into use. It is now housed in the historic buildings of the old smithy and Starostynski manor house on Castle Hill, surrounded by the greenery of the city park. The complex covers nearly 2,000 sq m of floor space. It features two stages: a large stage with seating for approximately 150 people and a small stage for 80 spectators. The theatre stages have been equipped with modern technology, lighting and moving stage elements, a sound system, including an immersive sound system, which will provide new staging possibilities. The former smithy building houses the workshop and carpenter's workshop, as well as dressing rooms for the actors and administrative and guest rooms. There is also a buffet, foyer, sanitary facilities, cloakroom and audience organisation office.
The ‘Kubuś’ Puppet and Actor Theatre in Kielce began its activities in 1955, initially as an Association. Its founder was Stefan Karski, who also gave the theatre its name, referring to the only armoured car in the Warsaw Uprising. Due to a lack of premises, the theatre initially operated as a travelling and guest theatre. In 1965, it became a state institution and gained its first premises, and in 1992 its seat on Duża Street in Kielce. Now, thanks to the adaptation of the buildings of the post-prison complex, which have regained their former historical splendour, the Theatre has gained new spacious premises with state-of-the-art technical equipment, which will allow it to take the youngest and older audience members into the magical world of theatre.
